In my opinion, Laurent Koscielny is as good as Thomas Vermaelen is. They both have similar qualities one big difference being Vermaelen is much more of a agressive defender and Koscielny is calm. Last season (2010/2011) I questioned Arsene Wenger when he signed another unknown frenchman and gave him the Number 6 Jersey wore by the legendary Tony Adams. I couldn't see Koscielny being partnered with Vermaelen, EVER. I took a break from Football during 2007-2010 so I never really saw many full matches, just the highlights. From what I saw in 2010 Koscielny was clumsy and Squillaci was even worse. for those that don't know Koscielny was partnered with another new summer signing Squillaci for the beginning of his Arsenal career because of the injuries to Vermaelen & Djourou and also the departure of Gallas in the Summer. In 2011 I subscribed to Sky+, ESPN and even Arsenal.com so I got to watch much more. I began to notice all the individual performances and the players that really stood out consistently were Koscielny, Sagna, Song & Wilshere. I noticed Koscielny reads the game so well and he has positioning that can be compared to legends like Fabio Cannavaro & Jaap Stam. He's also very athletic, times tackles well, has composure on the ball, knows how to pass accurately, basically all the attributes needed to be a great defender. The flaws I ...
